The story
After a month of punishing heat, a young woman who has just moved into a small two-bedroom apartment senses the temperature finally dropping. Her neighbor Karen, the area's security guard, has spent months taking her holiday benefits and never giving anything back. Then the woman wakes from a nightmare in which acid rain falls on the neighborhood, an invisible dome seals everyone inside, and Karen's family forces their way into her hoarded supplies, ties her up and pushes her out into the corrosive rain.
Believing the nightmare is a warning, she begins quietly preparing, buying food, water and daily necessities while arranging to move to a house in another neighborhood. Before she leaves, she refuses to let Karen's family live comfortably, and a camera she installed catches every insult Karen hurls at her.
Karen's family is already turning on itself, and the woman knows the day of the acid rain is approaching. This time she intends to survive at any cost, and to make her obnoxious neighbor reap what she sowed.
Opening
Karen, my neighbor, saw me moving out and sneered, "What's this? Finally decided to get lost?"
Little did she know that our neighborhood was about to become an isolated zone of high-temperature acid rain.
Those who couldn't escape were doomed to die.
I woke up from a nightmare, the pain of acid rain corroding my skin and bones still lingering, causing me to shiver uncontrollably.
