After AC Dropped One Degree, Family Forced Cheap House Sale

Every summer, a wife's husband keeps the air conditioning locked at exactly 79°F, and she has always assumed he is only watching out for the family's health. Then she nudges the thermostat down a single degree, and Glen Dickerson erupts in the living room, drags out the house deed and declares the place is being sold that very day. Their daughter Katherine, the obedient one who once swore to repay the six family members' savings that bought the house, threatens to drop out unless they sell.

When the neighbour Madge Lambert, the community mediator, rushes in, she first scolds Glen for acting on impulse, then recoils the moment she hears about the one degree and urges him to dump the house hundreds of thousands under value, cash buyers only. Convinced her husband owes loan sharks and has bribed the neighbour and frightened their daughter to force her signature, the wife refuses to sign and accuses him of scheming to clear his debts with her half of the house.
