The story
Mia's mother is an extreme marriage pusher. She sets up blind dates, insists marriage and children are a woman's destiny, and threatens to cut off mother-daughter relations if Mia does not marry within a year. Mia obeys and marries Danis Lynn, a man her family finds refined and well-liked.
Two years later, for her mother's 50th birthday banquet, Mia's uncle brings her home. Danis has beaten her into submission, warning her not to say anything out of line. At the party, her mother and relatives praise Danis for how sensible and gentle Mia has become, while Mia stays silent, hiding the abuse and the men Danis lets into her bed for money.
When Mia accidentally knocks over a wine glass, she bows and begs in terror, shocking her mother. Alone in her mother's room, Mia refuses to undress, and the truth of her marriage begins to surface.
Opening
Right after I graduated from college, she kept setting up various blind dates for me.
She said that marriage and having children were a woman's destiny. If I didn't get married, she would have to keep her head down when visiting relatives and wouldn't have the face to meet our ancestors after she died.
She also said that if I didn't get married within a year, she would cut off mother-daughter relations with me.
As she wished, I got married.
