The story

After her husband Owen dies of illness, Ivy stays on at the Sterling family home, where she grows close to his younger brother, Liam. For four years they are lovers in secret, and he promises to tell his parents and propose. Then, at a club, she overhears him and his friends: he only pursued her to avenge Owen's death, and his childhood sweetheart Daisy is back.

Shattered, Ivy agrees when Mrs. Sterling urges her to remarry and arranges a blind date. That night Liam comes to her room, and she lies to keep him away; when Daisy calls, he rushes out. By morning Ivy is feverish, and Liam takes her to the hospital, his worry seeming real.

Now Ivy must decide whether to keep believing him or turn toward a future of her own.
