That laugh came from a man. Then I heard a few faint scraping sounds, like someone was slowly shifting their body.

My fists clenched in panic. I didn't even have time to react. The next second, a massive electric chainsaw burst straight through the door, tearing through the wood with ease. The blade spun wildly, screeching with a sound that made my blood run cold.

A man's figure slowly came into view. He wore a black mask and a cap. I couldn't see his face, but I could feel his gaze locked onto me. Terrified, I stumbled backward, only to realize there was nowhere left to retreat.

He didn't say a single word. He simply stared at me, then forced the chainsaw forward. The door was completely cut open.

In despair, I raised my hands, making one last attempt to resist. "What did I ever do to you? At least tell me why before I die!"

The man still said nothing. He slowly lifted the chainsaw, the spinning teeth glinting coldly under the light, and swung it down with all his strength.

Excruciating pain bloomed through my entire body. Soon, blood pooled all over the floor. My body was sawn in half, agony engulfing me like a tidal wave.

Right before I lost consciousness, I saw a string of comments again.

"I told you guys, even if she steps away from the door, she's destined to die. The plot is set, and she remains the first victim. She can't run away from her fate."

"This kinda sucks. I mean, she really tried, but fate wins."

"Alright, stop sulking. The frustrating part is finally over. Next comes the satisfying part, where the hero solves cases and takes his revenge!"

When I opened my eyes again, the stench of blood and the searing pain in my body were gone. I found myself standing in front of my apartment door once more, completely unharmed.

My hands were reaching for the doorknob when I saw the bursts of live comments again.

"Don't open the door! That dude isn't a delivery guy at all! He's a murderer!"

"He called you to check if you're a woman living alone!"

"Seriously, why are all thriller story protagonists always so dumb? The delivery guy is obviously suspicious, yet she still wants to open the door."

I quickly pulled back, clutched my chest, and gasped. Had I been… reborn?

The man who had split me in half in my previous life was crouching outside my door again, lying in wait. There was no time. He had a chainsaw. Once the door was breached, I wouldn't have time to escape.

I sprinted deeper into the apartment. After a glance at the nearby rooms, I made a snap decision and charged into the bathroom. It was the room closest to the hallway window.

As long as I climbed out through the bathroom window, I would have a chance of getting away.

Once inside, I locked the door and reinforced it as best as I could. Then, I forced myself to think. From those strange, sudden comments, I quickly pieced things together.

I was living inside a thriller novel. The story revolved around the killer outside my door and a brilliant young man.

According to the comments, the story began with my death. I was someone extremely important to the hero. After I was killed, he became devastated and dragged himself into the chaos, matching wits with the murderer.

But I barely knew any man in my life. So who was that so-called hero in this story?

I opened the bathroom window and looked down at the drop below—ten floors. My head spun.

Just then, my phone buzzed with a message from the delivery guy. "Why aren't you picking up your food yet? Is something wrong? I can help you."

The same message as last time. I knew it. The killer was about to break in soon!

Without hesitating, I lifted my leg and climbed out of the window. The comments began popping up again.

"Damn, she's impressive. Even if she doesn't get much screen time, she's fierce for actually trying to climb out the window."
