From Heartbreak to Triumph

Adeline has spent three years devoted to Maxwell Finch, believing her love could one day be returned. When he sprains his ankle rushing to meet her, she takes leave from work to nurse him in the hospital, then hurries home to cook him chicken soup.

Returning to the ward, she overhears Maxwell and his friend George Martin joking about Eleanor Dashwood, his first love who has come back from abroad. George asks when Maxwell will cast off her replacement, and Maxwell, cold and indifferent, calls Adeline easy to get and says he still needs her to care for him at home. Later, his friend Dorian Everhart brings Eleanor's Ragdoll cat into the house despite Adeline's severe allergy, and Maxwell shoves the animal at her, dismissing her fear as dramatics. The cat scratches her, and she collapses, nearly going into shock.

Waking alone in a dark hospital room, Adeline learns the three men left once she was out of danger. The fantasy she built around Maxwell has crumbled, and she must decide what to do with the life she once imagined beside him.
