From Now On, I Only Love You

Wendy wakes to smoke and the memory of a previous life in which she died in a fire. In that life she saved a child, Victor, only to be pushed into the flames by his mother, Olive, while her husband Calvin ran past her to carry them both to safety. Trapped under a collapsing security door, she heard Victor call Calvin "Dad" before the fire consumed her.

Now she has been reborn on the same morning. She takes the opposite escape route, leaving Olive and Victor to their fate, and reaches safety alone. Calvin finds her outside and demands to know where they are, his grip bruising her arm. She feigns ignorance, though she now understands that Olive's hurried phone call was to him.

As the fire spreads, Calvin tries to rush back in to save them. Wendy clings to him, pleading that her stomach hurts and that their unborn child needs him, while neighbours urge him not to risk his life. He strikes her and pushes her to the ground, then disappears into the flames.
