The story
In her past life, Serena awakened the ultra-rare Water Affinity, but her boyfriend Bobby ripped it from her soul with his Siphon ability and grafted it onto his childhood sweetheart, Lyla, leaving Serena to die of dehydration in the wasteland. Now she has been reborn on the exact day her powers awakened, with the same cold system voice offering her a choice: Equivalent Exchange or Lifespan Consumption.
This time she chooses Lifespan Consumption, and she hides her intent behind flawless acting, letting Bobby believe her body is rejecting the power. He offers to transfer her Water Affinity into Lyla temporarily, burning his own lifespan to do it, and the camp hails Lyla as its savior while Serena is shoved into the dirt.
Lyla squanders the stolen power on baths and artificial rain, feeding her vanity with every drop. Serena only watches, waiting for the price to come due.
Opening
They dumped me in the wasteland like a piece of trash, leaving me to bake into a mummified corpse under the scorching desert sun.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the exact day my powers awakened.
A mechanical, icy voice echoed in my mind.
[Please select your ability conduit: A. Equivalent Exchange. B. Lifespan Consumption.]
Looking at the two hypocrites standing in front of me, I swallowed down a tidal wave of pure hatred and made my choice without a single heartbeat of hesitation.
"I choose B."
You wanted my powers so badly, Lyla? Take them.
