I Left My Body… But Not His Heart

After losing their baby, Maya and her husband Jake are crushed by debt and grief. Jake spends his days delivering food and his nights driving for a ride-share, while Maya battles severe depression. One evening, when Maya breaks down at the sight of a child, Jake snaps, shouting that he is hurting too and no one cares about him, then storms out into the rain.

Alone, Maya spirals. She believes she is only a burden, picks up the utility knife Jake uses for packages, and locks herself in the bathroom. She schedules a message telling him she is at a friend's place, then cuts her wrists in the tub, longing to join her baby.

When Jake returns with takeout and strawberries, he finds the bathroom door locked and sits outside, apologizing and promising they can pay off their debt and try for another child. He falls asleep against the door, never knowing Maya's body lies just behind it.
