The story
Teddy Thorne, heir to the Thorne empire, tells the world at a press conference that he has no secret marriage and no daughter. Watching from home, Elara Vance sees her three-year-old daughter Penny hear the denial and ask what she is if her father has no daughter. Four years of a private arrangement, never a marriage license, crumble in that moment.
A message arrives with a receipt for a vasectomy and a promise that Penny would be the sender's only child. When Teddy returns a week later, Elara has moved to a guest room and refuses him for the first time. She asks to separate, and when he demands to know if it is about the press conference, she says yes.
What began as devotion now leaves only the question of whether she can walk away from the man who denied their child.

The news broke without warning: Teddy Thorne, heir to the Thorne empire, was secretly married and had a daughter.
He held a press conference immediately.
