The story
Demetrius Anderson is fighting the final stages of cancer, and his devoted partner works a small food stall every evening to fund his treatment. She saves enough for his first round, eager to surprise him, only to find him dining at a fancy restaurant with a stunning woman, draping a necklace around her neck while his friend jokes about how long he can keep the charade going. Demetrius calls her naive and dim, saying she satisfies the elders and never cramps his style.
Once the truth clicks, she quits her job, sells her snack cart, and signs up to teach in a remote mountain village, leaving behind the empty rental apartment and the medical results that now look fake. Demetrius calls her in panic, asking why she never came, but she tells him she was tired, cutting him off before he can finish.
He refuses to let go, clutching her hand and demanding to know why she is walking away.
Opening
After saving enough for his first round of treatment, I was eager to surprise him. Instead, I found him dining with a stunning woman at a fancy restaurant.
His close friend laughed, "How much longer can you keep up this act? Don't you think she'll leave you once she catches on?"
With a smug grin, Demetrius shrugged. "She's so naive, it's almost funny. I never expected her to fall for it so easily."
