The story
Julian's first love, Vivian, wants a high-altitude bungee show for her birthday. Though Chloe is three months pregnant and terrified of heights, Julian and their five-year-old son Leo have her suspended a thousand feet in the air. When she begs for her life, Julian sneers and presses the release switch; Vivian pushes her off while Leo cheers. Chloe dies, her soul rising beside the family who refuses to believe she is gone.
Invisible, Chloe follows Julian and Leo home, where Vivian now sits in the house Chloe decorated. The pillows she was never allowed to touch, the tableware she was forbidden to use, the spare room meant for a second child—all were made for Vivian. Late that night, Vivian confesses to Chloe's wedding photo that the marriage was a lie and the fall was planned.
Chloe can only watch as the family she gave everything for moves on without her, and as Leo asks where she is.
Opening

So, even though I was three months pregnant, they suspended me from a platform a thousand feet in the air.
I was shaking all over, crying and begging them.
"I'm terrified of heights, and I have a heart condition! Please, the baby and I will die!"
But my husband, Julian, only sneered impatiently.
"Stop acting, Chloe. You used to climb trees to rescue stray cats. Now you're playing the coward?"
Our five-year-old son, Leo, joined in.
