Love given in vain, no turning back

After a car accident leaves her with a fractured wrist and bleeding knees, Laura Nie sits on the curb waiting for her husband, Frank Zhuang. When he finally arrives, his first words are an accusation rather than concern, and he soon abandons her to tend to another woman, Cecilia Xiang, massaging her foot and buying her soft shoes while Laura stands injured nearby. What Frank does not know is that Laura is no helpless orphan; thousands of miles away in Paris, her family has prepared inheritance papers awaiting her return.

The two clawed their way up from nothing together, sharing a drafty rental room and instant noodles until they had a house, a car and a company. In the process Laura grew quiet, and Frank took her silence for a sensible wife rather than a dying heart. Watching him kneel to warm Cecilia's ankle, Laura feels nothing at all, and resolves to leave the husband she once endured everything for.
