The story
When his wife's nephew Jill is kidnapped for a half-million-dollar ransom, a husband finds every one of his bank accounts frozen by his wife, Arabella. He calls her endlessly, but no call connects. After three days and nights of torture, the boy dies before he can be rescued. Tracking Arabella down, he finds her in a hotel room with her own brother, Julian, who needs a heart transplant. Believing the dead child is the couple's daughter, Maya, Arabella signs organ donation consent forms and orders the body brought to the hospital.
Only the husband knows the truth: Jill was not Arabella's nephew but her son, and Julian was his father. As the transplant proceeds, his in-laws blame him for a death that was never Maya's, while the kidnapping case stalls and Julian flaunts his recovery. When Jill's body is found mauled in a dumpster, Arabella accuses him of negligence. He hands her divorce papers instead, and she offers him another child to keep him.
He has endured everything for Maya, but his patience has finally run out.
Opening
My wife’s nephew was kidnapped. The ransom was half a million dollars.
But when I tried to pay it, I found that my wife, Arabella, had frozen all of my bank accounts.
I must have called her a thousand times to ask why, but not a single call went through.
The boy, Jill, was tortured for three days and three nights. By the time he was rescued, his small body broken and bruised, he had already stopped breathing.
