The story
A super hurricane is bearing down on Atlanta, and Ivy wakes to a second chance: she has been reborn three hours before the storm that killed her. In her previous life, her mother secretly opened the balcony doors to air out the condo; the glass shattered, and the Category 5 winds tore Ivy from the eighteenth floor while her mother kicked her away, declaring that her house and money would belong to her brother, Emerson.
This time, Ivy refuses to collect her parents from the Atlanta Amtrak Station. She blocks their calls, stocks the Marietta Farmer's Market with supplies, and returns to Brookstone Heights Subdivision to find her family already inside her condo: Emerson sprawled on her bed, her father's cigarettes burning the carpet, her mother cooking the beef from her fridge.
With the hurricane only an hour and a half away, Ivy must decide how to face the family who let her fall.
Opening
I told her it was dangerous and begged her not to.
Yet, in the middle of the night, while I was asleep, she secretly opened the balcony doors and windows.
In an instant, the glass doors shattered, and the hurricane stormed into the living room.
I was asleep on the couch when the wind picked me up half a meter into the air.
I begged my mom to pull me back.
But she, afraid I’d drag her down with me, kicked me away.
