The story
A new employee joins an office where a coworker named Sandra freely takes whatever she wants, from pens to phones, and hides behind her family's ownership of the company. When Sandra swipes Laura's brand-new phone and demands a delivery fee, Laura pays in tears, too afraid of Sandra's threats to refuse.
Sandra keeps targeting Pablo, stealing his birthday cake and gifts and daring anyone to object. The new hire, once a search-and-rescue professional, finally steps in, pointing out that Sandra's expensive skirt is a knockoff and hinting she stole it too. As the office laughs, Sandra falls back on her usual threat to have people fired.
Unimpressed, the new hire tells her to stay away, saying the stench of freeloading reeks of cheapness.
Opening
One of my coworkers had a notorious habit of freeloading.
Whether it was something as small as a ballpoint pen or as expensive as a pair of headphones or a phone, she would sneakily take whatever wasn't hers when no one was looking.
"We're all coworkers, aren't we? What's the big deal if I use your stuff?"
