The story
Sophie keeps a low profile at college, hiding her family's wealth behind knockoff labels and a plain silver bracelet. Her roommate Danielle Clementine, newly dating a supposed trust fund guy, flaunts gifts, steals the spotlight, and belittles Sophie in front of the other girls, especially Alexa Wind.
When Danielle brags about her boyfriend, Sophie recognizes him: Tony James, her family's new security guard, driving her own car on dates. Danielle even rummages through Sophie's locker and threatens to cut up her Hermès tote, backing down only when Sophie warns her she will pay for it.
Sophie pours herself into winning a scholarship, only to find Danielle's name on the National Merit list and her own absent. The quiet war in the dorm is far from over.
Opening
She even stole my scholarship, then rallied a bunch of people online to bash me.
“Oh, look at the campus star,” she sneered, “Too proud to donate a dime for her roommate’s family even though her ‘scholarship boyfriend’ just gave a million!”
I was speechless. The anonymous million-dollar donor was me.
When she saw I didn’t react, she brought her boyfriend over to “put me in my place.”
