The story
Sienna Henderson returns home to find her mother, Amelia, on the floor begging Sienna's teenage sister, Maya, to keep an unexpected pregnancy. Sienna shields Maya, insisting the girl is still a student and cannot become a mother, and vows to take her to a hospital.
Amelia calls the pregnancy a life that must not be ended, while Sienna remembers a past in which Maya died in childbirth and their brother Albert lost the money for his uremia surgery. Sienna forces Amelia to stay out of it, but the next day Amelia brings Henry Walker, the father of Maya's baby, to the hallway, and Maya trembles at the sight of him.
Sienna confronts Henry, demanding to know whether he forced her sister, as Amelia dismisses the matter as a couple's affair.
Opening
The daughter of my father's mistress wanted to go on a trip. My mother took the money meant to save my little brother's life and used it to sign her up for that tour.
To help someone else pay off their debts, she slipped something into my drink and sent me to some stranger's bed.
I never understood why she did all those things.
It was only after I died that I found out she was the saintly heroine of some story, and we were just the setup before the real plot began.
