The story
Adrian Hayes dines at his sister Serena Hayes's three-Michelin-star restaurant, expecting his usual tab. Instead, the manager, Brendon Miller, hands him a half-million-dollar bill padded with absurd fees and refuses to believe Adrian is Serena's brother. Adrian calls his sister, but her phone rings busy.
Brendon, who is secretly Serena's boyfriend, recognizes Adrian from her photo album and accuses him of being a creep leeching off her. Security guards drag Adrian into a storeroom, where Brendon beats and kicks him, demanding two million dollars. Adrian calls his friend Leo Rodriguez, who arrives with the money and helps him leave.
Adrian then orders the restaurant's real manager, Mr. Peterson, to fire Brendon or lose Hayes Enterprises' investment. After filing a police report and getting an injury assessment, Adrian heads to Serena's villa, determined to demand an explanation from his sister.
Opening
I looked at the unfamiliar face, thinking he must be new and didn't recognize me. So, I politely explained,
“Just put it on your boss’s tab. She knows about it.”
The male manager gave me a dismissive glance. “Sir, this is a three-Michelin-star restaurant. We never allow tabs.”
He finished speaking, then handed me a printed bill.
I glanced down at it. A single meal, half a million dollars.
Glow-up cutlery maintenance fee: $30,000.
Exclusive air purification fee: $50,000.
