The story
The day Cassandra and her son move into a new neighborhood, her friendly neighbor Brenda turns on her, accusing Cassandra's son Buddy of assaulting her eighteen-year-old daughter Tiffany. When Cassandra refuses Brenda's demands for a settlement and a marriage, the mother and daughter take her to court, where Tiffany tearfully describes the attack and displays her bruises before a furious jury.
Cassandra stands alone against the crowd, insisting her son is innocent and could not have committed the crime. She presses Tiffany on the contradictions in her testimony, certain that the mother and daughter have never once laid eyes on Buddy. Yet the courtroom demands punishment, and the judge calls for evidence from both sides.
Opening
The day we moved into the neighborhood, our new neighbor sued me.
She sobbed hysterically, accusing my son of assaulting her daughter.
"My Tiffany just turned eighteen, and that sick pervert, Buddy, ruined her!"
"That worthless piece of trash, clearly raised by wolves, deserves the death penalty!"
Her daughter also insisted it was my son.
"Buddy told me he'd choke me if I didn't take off my clothes… I was so scared, boohoo…"
