The story
Jason's wife Claire claims she has stage four breast cancer and needs expensive treatment abroad. She insists on a divorce so she can qualify for a discount as an unmarried patient, promising they will remarry once she recovers. Jason agrees, but then sees a post from Claire's young male assistant, Derek, boasting that he convinced his boss to fake cancer and divorce her husband so they could go to Hawaii together. The photos show a woman in the shirt Jason bought Claire.
Jason records Claire and Derek at the airport, tangled together and walking past him unnoticed. When he comments on Derek's post, Derek reveals Claire secretly aborted their child years ago at his urging. Then Margaret and Mr. Anderson are in a car accident; Mr. Anderson dies, and Margaret, recovering in the hospital, keeps asking where her daughter is.
Opening
My wife mentioned she'd need to work late tonight.
I thought I'd surprise her by dropping off her favorite macarons at the office.
But as I approached the door, I overheard her laughing with her male assistant:
"Babe, I really wanna go to Hawaii with you."
"Worried your husband'll find out? Simple. Just tell him you've got cancer and need overseas treatment.
