The story
A wife argues with her husband when he insists on burning the new yellow dress she bought, warning that anything yellow in the house means they will all die. She dismisses it as nonsense and shuts herself in the bathroom to cool off. When she comes out, the house is full of police: six bodies lie in the living room, her parents, her in-laws, her husband and her five-year-old daughter Nina, every face frozen in terror, the yellow dress clutched in her daughter's hand and a line of words written in blood on the floor.
The door was bolted from inside, the windows shut, and no outsider appears on the entrance camera, leaving her the only one alive. The detective questions her about the half hour she spent in the bathroom, and a neighbor recalls the fight and the words she shouted in anger. Handcuffs close around her wrists as the only suspect.
She insists she could never have harmed the parents who gave her everything, yet the blood-written words and the dress in her daughter's hand point only at her.

He insisted on burning the new yellow dress I'd just bought, his voice edged with obsession.
"There can't be anything yellow in this house, or we'll all die!"
I thought he was talking nonsense. We snapped at each other for a while, then I shut myself in the bathroom to cool off.
