The story
Hazel has spent her whole life copying her identical twin sister, Nora, down to broken bones and career choices. When Nora sets her sights on Harrison Hayes, heir to the Hayes dynasty, Hazel pursues his quieter younger brother, Austin, to keep the symmetry intact — buying the matching watch, staging the matching rejection, even reserving adjoining burial plots.
But Nora forbids her from copying this courtship, and her behaviour grows stranger by the day. At a charity derby a runaway stallion charges the paddock, and Nora drags Hazel clear of the hooves, screaming at the sky to be terminated, calling the romance a mission and warning that her sister will buy them all a mausoleum. Hazel begins to suspect her sister's devotion is not what it seems.
At the Metropolitan Club auction, Nora drives the bidding to twelve million for a rare tourbillon, and Hazel raises her paddle for the companion piece.
