The story
For three years, Clara Ashworth's soul has been trapped in the ceiling of the home she was cast out of. Her family has taken in Lily, the girl raised in her place, and they believe Clara faked her own death to torment them. To prove it, they hire Daredevil Dave, a paranormal livestreamer, to expose her tricks at the abandoned building where she is said to have thrown herself down a well.
As Dave broadcasts from the weed-choked yard, the chat seethes with rumors that Clara poisoned her father and stole from the family. Lily claims Clara visits her dreams and curses her, and when a yellowed parchment bearing Lily's name is found in the well, the family's fury hardens. Yet a cold wind rises, Dave's flashlight dies, and the stream cuts out, leaving even her mother to wonder if something truly happened to Clara.
When the broadcast returns, the family vows to show the world the monster they believe her to be, while Clara watches from above, still unseen.
Opening
For three years, my soul has been trapped in the ceiling. Tonight, my family hired a paranormal livestreamer to prove I faked my own death.
During the broadcast, my mother wrapped her arm around Lily, the girl they raised in my place, and called me a venomous, ungrateful snake.
My brother's voice was cold as ice. “When she was home, all she did was hurt Lily with her pathetic little schemes. Now she’s learned to play dead just to torment us. A monster like that doesn’t deserve to be my sister!”
