The story
Every year on her birthday, Lucy asks her boyfriend Eric to take her to an amusement park. For five years he promises next time, and every time the car turns instead toward whatever her best friend Bella loves. On the fifth year he finally agrees, yet before they reach the entrance he drives to the escape room Bella favors, where the NPCs send Lucy falling and injured while Eric shields Bella and runs off with her.
Outside, staff praise Eric and Bella as a couple, and Bella says nothing to correct them. Eric carries Bella's bag but has never carried Lucy's, and the shoes Lucy hoped were her gift turn out to be Bella's. When Lucy's boss offers a transfer to headquarters, she accepts and books a morning flight, ready to leave the three-person game behind.
Eric still insists on taking her to the hospital, then detours to drop Bella home first, leaving Lucy to limp out at an intersection alone. By the time she reaches the hospital, her wound is infected, and a birthday message waits on her phone.
