The Star that Blooms in Darkness

Born in a hospital toilet and abandoned by her biological mother, Holly is rescued by a nurse named Sarah, who adopts her despite warnings that the child has brain damage. Sarah brings Holly to work, takes night shifts, and watches for every small sign of progress as Holly grows.

When Holly cannot roll over at six months, a specialist finds developmental delay, and rehabilitation costs more than Sarah earns. Sarah works odd jobs in the rehab department to learn the techniques, until the principled Dr. Zhao warns her off, then quietly offers her paid work and teaches her hand by hand.

Holly stands at one, learns her name at two, and is asked to leave kindergarten within a week. Sarah confronts the teacher and stands by her daughter, and Holly becomes an out-of-school child.
