The story
Hannah and her sister Bella appear together on a livestreamed reality show, where a dispute over whether their mother ever put two eggs in their instant ramen exposes a lifetime of unequal treatment. Bella insists their mother always poached two eggs; Hannah remembers none. When they call their mother on air, she confirms Bella's version and dismisses Hannah as petty for keeping score.
The moment goes viral, and the production team plans a roundtable on family upbringing. There Bella reveals the properties and insurance policy her parents gave her, while Hannah can only name a silver bracelet that was passed to her after Bella tired of it. Raised apart in a poor mountain village while Bella grew up beside their parents, Hannah must face the wounds she thought had healed.
Opening
I was on a reality show with my sister. I was making instant noodles for her when she insisted I was doing it wrong.
"Mom always puts two eggs in when she makes ramen."
But growing up, I never once had an egg in my ramen.
Right there on set, we called our mom.
She admitted it. "It's such a small thing, why are you making a big deal out of it? You're being so petty, sis."
