The story
Asher has spent seven years with Elara, yet she never made their relationship public or met his family. Then he learns she has proposed to her assistant, Milo Jensen, and overhears her say she must marry him so his family won't force him into another match, certain Asher cannot live without her.
Quietly, Asher agrees to the arranged marriage his parents have prepared with Chloe of the Sterling family, while Elara remains unaware, assuming his distance is a ploy to pressure her. She forgets his birthday, gives his musical tickets to Milo, and lets him see her tending Milo through the rain.
On the wedding day, their cars pass, and Elara breaks down at the sight of him beside another bride.
Opening
I confronted her, but overheard her conversation with a friend:
"If I don't marry him, his family will force him to marry someone he doesn't love."
"What about Asher? He's your boyfriend. Aren't you afraid he'll get mad?"
"What's getting mad going to do? Asher and I have been together for seven years. He can't live without me."
Later, I got married on the same day.
