The story
After Chester Caldwell loses his sight in an accident, Riley Seafield gives him her corneas, believing his vow that he will never let her down. She resigns from her job and turns her back on her family to become his wife, and his parents approve of the match.
Everything changes when Yvette Lynch returns. Chester postpones the wedding again and again, comes home late, and forgets their anniversaries. On Riley's birthday his gift is two movie tickets, and when she questions him, he tells her she gave up her vision willingly. Yvette adds that the movie was not to her liking. Riley tears the tickets and leaves, cutting her calf on a broken vase as Chester ignores her blood and goes to the cinema with Yvette.
Alone on the street, Riley texts him that they are breaking up, then a stranger drags her away. When she begs Chester to pay the man, he and Yvette mock her instead of helping, and Riley is left to face the cruelty she once refused to see.
Opening
After Chester Caldwell loses his vision, I donate my corneas to him without hesitation. He vows that he'll never let me down, yet he delays our wedding time and time again after his true love suddenly returns to the country.
On the day of my birthday, his gift arrives, albeit late. I accept it expectantly only to find that they're two movie tickets. I question him about it, but he answers impatiently, "Who said anything about the blind being unable to watch movies?
"You willingly gave up your vision back then—I didn't force you into anything!
