The story
On New Year's Eve, a husband drives his eight-months-pregnant wife toward his hometown, then abandons her on the highway when Melissa calls about her missing cat. Left in the cold, she goes into labor and a stranger takes her in.
Traffic jams every lane, and the husband's traffic-patrol friend Marcus dismisses her as dramatic, while Logan mocks her and hangs up. Strangers clear the emergency lane to rush her to the hospital, but it may already be too late.
At the hospital, Logan arrives with Melissa and her cat, indifferent to what his wife has lost.
Opening
When we hit traffic, he suddenly pulled the car over to the side of the road.
"Get out!"
I didn't process what he said. "What?"
He stared straight ahead, eyes fixed on the road. "Melissa's cat is missing. I need to go help her find it."
I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
His phone rang urgently again.
