The story
Before her son leaves for university, he hands his mother a list of necessities: a two-thousand-dollar laptop, a thousand-dollar phone, and travel costs that push the total toward ten thousand dollars. Her mother is hospitalized and needs money urgently, so she offers him five thousand first. His face darkens; he accuses her of being stingy and writes a lengthy post scolding his own family online.
The post goes viral. Netizens berate her for mistreating her child, someone threatens to kill her, and a stranger with a nearby IP address claims he will punish her. When a man rings the doorbell claiming to check the water meter, her husband dismisses her fear and opens the door anyway. She hears his cry over the phone, then nothing.
Her husband survives and the culprit is caught, but her son blames her only for not giving him money. He ransacks the house to sell her belongings, including her late grandmother's pearl necklace, at the flea market. When she tries to stop him, he watches as buyers drag her away with it.

Before my son entered university, he gave me a list of necessities he needed for school.
Everything from a laptop costing 2,000 dollars to a phone at 1,000 dollars. Even the cost of traveling amounted to almost 10,000 dollars.
My head pounded at the staggering figure. My mom had been hospitalized and was in urgent need of money. 10,000 dollars was a huge sum. I asked if I could give him 5,000 dollars first.
My son’s face darkened in an instant, and he yelled at me for being stingy. He even wrote a lengthy post scolding his own family on social media.
