The story
After a bolt of lightning strikes Scarlett Lane and her childhood friend Adrian Cole at the same moment, both wake in a hospital to memories that are not their own. They are living inside a novel: she is the vicious female supporting character, and he is the obsessive second male lead. In the original story, neither meets a good end.
Rather than keep chasing the leads who spurn them, the two exhausted rich kids decide to date each other instead. Their parents, convinced a fortune teller's reading saved their lives, have already arranged the engagement. But the cold, aloof male lead, Nathan Hale, refuses to believe Scarlett has truly moved on, and Adrian grows possessive the moment he sees Nathan's messages.
With the engagement approaching, the two must decide how far they are willing to go to escape the roles the story gave them.
Opening
After getting struck by lightning, my childhood friend and I both awakened to the truth.
He was the obsessive second male lead.
I was the vicious female villain.
Neither of us was exactly a good person.
In the original story, after failing to win the heroine's love, he set out to destroy the male lead.
And after failing to win the hero, I made the heroine's life miserable.
Once we woke up to the truth, though, we were both exhausted.
So we decided to stop chasing the leads and just date each other instead.
