I Quit the Love Game

Flynn has spent twelve years trying to win Sadie White's heart, and on his birthday she abandons him once again, this time for Kermit Bankman, a childhood friend who claims to be suicidal and demands only her. Flynn tells the System he is finished with the love game; if he dies in this world, he can return to his own. Twice before he tried to end his life, and twice Sadie burst in and pulled him back, accusing him of seeking attention.

Now Kermit's calls and messages keep dragging Sadie away, and his taunts about the nights he spends with her wear Flynn down. When Flynn cuts his wrist in the bathtub, Sadie breaks down the door and rides with him to the hospital, begging him to stay. Yet at his bedside she explains that Kermit lost his memory and has no one but her, and asks Flynn to be patient a little longer.

Flynn watches her glance at her phone and drift toward the door, and finally sees how empty her promises have always been.
