The story
Cecilia Hilton sits in the SATs examination hall, surrounded by floating comments that only she can see. For three months, these comments have lifted her from second place to first in her grade, even as she stopped studying and spent her days playing. Now, in the exam, she deliberately chooses the opposite of every answer the comments suggest, certain that Alexandria Johnson is behind the trick and determined not to fall for it.
Afterward, outside a private room at the graduation party, Cecilia overhears Alexandria talking with a system and with Thomas White, the boy who once promised to enroll with her at Longford University. Inside, classmates Jennie Carlson and the others mock Cecilia, betting she has been cheating, while Alexandria pities her family background and Thomas finally makes his choice clear.
Cecilia realizes how much she has lost, and how much Alexandria's scheme has shown her. The results are announced today.
