The story
During her senior year of high school, a girl's parents cut off all financial support to force her to drop out, mocking her for being a money pit and telling her to work for her brother's college tuition. She runs away, clutching her academic awards, and enrolls at St. Jude's Preparatory Academy, an elite, tuition-free school full of ultra-wealthy trust-fund kids who never study.
Her tuition is waived, but she still needs money to eat. After starving for half a month, wearing threadbare clothes, she timidly asks her classmates whether anyone needs their homework done for five dollars. The rich kids, busy flexing their wealth, stop and stare in shock, then erupt into wild bidding.
Serena and the others offer five hundred, five thousand, even fifty thousand dollars, each demanding to be first in line. The girl insists she can only take five dollars per assignment, but the chaos of their outrageous bids has already begun.
Opening
With nowhere else to go, I managed to enroll in an elite, tuition-free private prep school full of insanely wealthy kids.
The catch? I still needed money for food.
After starving for half a month, wearing my most threadbare clothes, I finally mustered the courage.
