The story
Emily is the most promising young warrior in her pack, and she never wanted a matchmaker. But her best friend Chloe keeps pushing her toward Ethan, an enforcer from the same pack, until Emily agrees to meet him once. Sparks fly at first sight, and before long the two complete their mating bond.
Six months into her pregnancy, Chloe returns from out of town and drops a bombshell: she lent Ethan to Emily all these years, and it is time to give him back. Suddenly the signs Emily overlooked come into focus—Ethan's gaze drifting to Chloe at every Full Moon Festival, his calls answered for Chloe but not for her, his worry fixed on Chloe's old shoulder injury while Emily's own medical charts go ignored.
Emily takes responsibility for her blindness and decides to sever the mating bond. Her only hesitation is the pup she carries, though her own standing means she could raise a child alone.
Opening
Chloe, my best friend, tried to set me up with Ethan, an enforcer who grew up in the same pack as her. I turned her down flat.
I was recognized as the most promising young warrior in our entire pack; I didn't need anyone playing matchmaker for me.
But Chloe kept nagging and begging until I finally agreed to meet him just once.
