The story
When Ivy Reeves suffers a sudden allergic reaction, her mother Suzy calls the one person who can save her: her husband Clinton Reeves, a doctor who knows Ivy's condition best. But Gemma Walken answers instead, and Clinton refuses to come, accusing Suzy of using their daughter as an excuse to drag him away from a soccer match.
At the hospital, Dr. Marlon can do nothing without Clinton, and Clinton's number soon becomes unreachable. Ivy dies, her small body covered in rashes, while Clinton is nowhere to be found. Three days later he returns with another identical doll for a daughter who is gone, and Suzy finally speaks of divorce.
Clinton's patience hardens into a threat, but Suzy has stopped excusing the man who once saved her in college and whom she married after Gemma left him. Now she sees only the husband who chose his childhood sweetheart over his family.
Opening
My daughter has a sudden allergic reaction, and my husband, an expert in these things, is the only one who can save her.
I call him at this critical juncture, but his childhood sweetheart is the one who answers. "Clinton is busy. He wants me to tell you not to call him if it's not important."
There's no time for me to get mad. I say anxiously, "Tell him to come to the hospital now. Ivy has had an allergic reaction and is waiting for him to save her."
