The story
Julian Moritz, a celebrated designer, is abducted from an award ceremony in Milan and wakes at the Thorne estate, where his grandfather and Silas Thorne are settling a marriage pact between Julian and Isabelle Thorne. Wandering into the garden, he is attacked by Blake Everton, who claims the heirloom ring on Julian's finger is his own gift from Isabelle. When Julian texts Isabelle, he finds himself blocked.
Isabelle returns and takes Blake's side, refusing the engagement and ordering her bodyguards to seize Julian and cut the ring from his hand. Dragged to a pond and bound in a rowboat, Julian faces the saw as Blake and Isabelle watch with cruel delight.
Julian's grandfather taught him to fight, but against so many guards, his defiance may cost him everything.
Opening
One second I was accepting an award in Milan, the next I was hooded and shoved onto a private jet.
I woke at the Thorne estate. Mr. Silas Thorne was cheerfully playing chess with my grandfather. “It’s time we settled that marriage pact between your grandson and my granddaughter,” he said.
While they negotiated, I slipped into the garden. Seeing a perfect rose, I reached for it—but a kick sent me stumbling down, my back burning.
“Who’s this charity case touching my rose? The one Miss Thorne planted for me!” snarled a man surrounded by bodyguards.
