The story
Audrey has already died. Her heart went to her mother, her kidney to Dylan, her spleen to Michael, and her legs were amputated to save her father. Because her family cannot see her, they believe she is a rebellious daughter who skipped her mother's surgery and now torments them from afar. When the crematorium calls about her unclaimed body, her mother rages, and Chloe, the adopted sister, calmly fuels the family's anger.
At Chloe's lavish coming-of-age party, the family showers her with gifts while Audrey watches, invisible. Chloe then claims to have seen Audrey with a man, and the family believes her, cursing Audrey's name. They even give Audrey's hard-won honors-class spot to Chloe.
When Chloe returns from school injured and names Riley, Audrey's best friend, the family storms the dean's office demanding an apology. Audrey can only watch as the people she died to protect turn against everyone she loved.
