The story
Clary, her boyfriend Joshua Carter and her best friend Alanna Hayes had planned to attend Lakehaven University together. But on the first day, Clary waits alone at the gates: the pair have switched to Bellmere University without telling her, and Joshua brushes off her hurt with a casual call while feeding Alanna from his fork.
Joshua, a self-confessed clean freak, makes Clary wash her hands before touching his things, yet he pinches Alanna's cheek and remembers her favourite anchovy pizza, not Clary's dislike of anchovies. In their group chat, none of the messages are for her. When he tells her to apologise to Alanna for being quiet, Clary finally ends the relationship.
After a long journey, Clary reaches her dorm, where her new roommate Maya Collins is waiting. She resolves not to turn back this time.
Opening

With her hands clasped together and her eyes red-rimmed, she says, "I'm sorry, Clary!
