The story
Eight years ago, Seraphina Thorne agreed to a marriage alliance with Julian Davies, who confessed he had liked her for a long time. Over seven years of marriage he was devoted, and she slowly accepted him as her life partner. Then Isabelle Shaw appeared on Julian's arm, pregnant with his child, and told Seraphina that since she did not love him, she should step aside. Seraphina was stunned: Isabelle looked just like her eight years ago.
Julian shielded Isabelle, insisting she was young and would not affect Seraphina's position as Mrs. Davies. When Seraphina asked for a divorce, he warned that it was not a smart business move. He began spending openly on Isabelle, and at a business gala Isabelle mentioned a cake from Seraphina's favorite bakery, the one Julian once queued for before dawn. Seraphina must decide what remains of a marriage built on a business alliance.
Opening
I didn’t love Julian when we got engaged eight years ago.
He didn’t care. He just smiled.
“Let’s see where this goes.”
For seven years of marriage, he was all in. Everyone knew it. He would’ve done anything for me.
I finally believed it too.
Then she showed up—a shy girl holding onto Julian’s arm.
“I’m carrying his baby. Since you don’t love him, let me.”
When I looked at her, I was stunned. She looked just like me… eight years ago.
