The story
Elara has always believed her sister Karen was her closest friend, the one who knelt in the chapel until her knees bled to get her into the family tree and refused a cent of the family fortune. Then Karen brought Ethan into her life, and he shaped Elara into a true heiress and proposed on her graduation day. The two of them were flames warming what Elara thought was a hopeless life.
But when Elara returns from the hospital, she sees Ethan pressing Karen against the wall, confessing he has always loved her. Karen only weeps and begs him not to hurt Elara. Outside, the medical report in Elara's hand reads that she has less than one month to live.
Elara hides the truth, blaming a nosebleed on walking into the doorframe, but Stanton bursts in demanding why she ran when he saw her at the oncology department. As Ethan and Karen trade memories she has no part in, Elara watches their fireworks from the window, then sees them kiss.
Opening
To me, Karen was never the false heiress who stole my life. She was my baby sister, my closest friend.
When our parents refused to acknowledge me, she knelt in the chapel until her knees bled, just to get me into the family tree. When I was bullied at school, she slapped the ringleader Stanton so hard his face swelled—trembling with fear, yet forcing a smile to comfort me. Even the family fortune, she refused a cent, insisting it all be mine.
