The story
Dr. Christa is the Mayor's personal physician, and when he collapses with diabetic ketoacidosis, she races down a gridlocked highway with his insulin, knowing he has only minutes before the damage becomes irreversible.
Two officers stop her on a false report of drug trafficking. The informant is Maya, an intern Christa once trained and once corrected in front of the whole department. Maya's story shifts from a joke to a drug claim to a forged accusation of organ trafficking, and each version tightens the handcuffs. Her father is Anderson, the Mayor's secretary, and she is certain that name protects her.
With the ambulance two hundred meters away and the Mayor unconscious, Christa must prove her identity and reach him before the last four minutes run out.
Opening
Suddenly, two police officers stopped me.
"Someone reported you for transporting contraband."
I froze.
I glanced back and spotted Maya, the intern, covering her mouth as she laughed.
"That's her! There are drugs in that box!"
I quickly explained, "It's insulin in this box!"
