The story
In the tenth year of her marriage to Jonathan Elroy, a genius pianist, Natalie falls ill with a strange sickness. Her husband misses her birthday to care for his ailing sister-in-law, attends an important performance with her, and rushes home only to tend to her scalded hand. Natalie, once fiercely jealous, feels nothing at all. Her memories of Jonathan are riddled with holes.
Long ago a system warned her that no one who stayed could grow old with their assigned target, and made a bet: if Jonathan ever changed his heart, she would gradually lose every memory of him, her body would weaken, and she would die. She chose to stay anyway. Now, as her husband denies the system exists and gives her a ruby brooch she has already seen on Jess Macaron, she summons the system again and asks to go home.
The day after tomorrow, she will leave. At Peach Blossom Park, where they once fell in love, a cry for help rings out over the lake—and Jonathan shoves her aside to save Jess, leaving Natalie bleeding on the ground as the car speeds away.

A month ago, my husband missed my birthday party to care for his ailing sister-in-law. Night after night, I had waited for him to return home. But that night I forgot to wait at all and went to bed early.
Half a month ago, he attended an important performance with his sister-in-law. I had always been petty and prone to jealousy, yet this time I didn't get angry. I simply went home in silence.
Three days ago, I fell seriously ill with a burning fever.
