Every time I pressed my husband for answers, he’d just laugh and ruffle my hair with that practiced, effortless affection.
"Sweetheart, you haven’t lost any memories. You’re just being sensitive. It’s the hormones."
I’d shake my head and try to believe him. Maybe I was just overthinking it. Maybe the fog in my brain was just a side effect of the pregnancy.
But when the cold bite of a gun barrel pressed against my spine, I realized the nightmare had never actually ended. It had just been sleeping.
