The story
When scandalous photos of Julian Maxwell and his new girlfriend Lily surface, everyone expects Seraphina to retaliate. But at the cruise party, Julian publicly shields Lily, vowing to break the hand of anyone who touches her. Seraphina wants only the key to the safe holding her mother's ashes, her price for his infidelity. Lily tosses it into a snake pit, daring her to retrieve it.
Seraphina plunges her hand into the writhing snakes, driven by a message from her father: bring her mother home within one day, or lose him forever. Julian pulls her out, then scolds her, while Lily weeps and offers the key. When Seraphina reaches for it, Julian stops her, demanding to know if she means to leave him.
After three years as his kept woman, her every move controlled, Seraphina finally speaks back. Julian orders her locked in the cruise ship's storage room, where her claustrophobia closes in.
Opening
So, at the cruise party, he made a grand declaration, protecting his new love.
"Anyone who dares touch a hair on Lily's head, I'll break their hand."
I wasn't looking to settle scores with Lily. All I wanted was the key to the safe containing my mother's ashes, as compensation for his infidelity.
Julian seemed conflicted, but Lily already had the key.
She tossed it into a snake pit, specially prepared to satisfy the wealthy guests' twisted amusement.
"Seraphina, Julian said all the cards and house keys are mine now.
