The story
Chloe has lived in Ethan Thompson's apartment for three years, and for three years his ex-girlfriend Scarlett Hayes has refused to let go. She stole the dog they once raised together, planted a device in his car to replay his old confessions, and turns up drunk outside their building to pound on the door until he comes down. Ethan swears he hates her, yet he never truly cuts her off.
When Scarlett attacks him in a drunken rage, Chloe pushes her away and is slapped for it. Ethan pins Chloe's wrist, helps Scarlett up, and carries her off into the night, leaving Chloe's swollen cheek unasked about. Then his messages arrive, demanding she drop the police report so Scarlett's record stays clean, and threatening to end things if she refuses.
Packing her suitcase, Chloe opens his laptop and finds an archive of over ten thousand photos of Scarlett, and chat logs full of a warmth he never gave her. She decides the slap will not be for nothing.

But every time she got drunk, she'd show up outside our apartment building and cause a massive scene, pounding on the door and ringing the doorbell incessantly, until he came down.
