The story
Cole Evans has spent three years as the ignored husband of Evelyn Stone, CEO of Stone Industries, enduring daily humiliation while she watches in cold silence. When Miles, the company's Vice President and Evelyn's childhood friend, slaps him during a meeting, something in Cole finally snaps. He bends Miles's finger back, sweeps his legs out from under him, and drives his head into the floor three times, then walks out past Evelyn's furious glare.
Outside, Cole tells Evelyn the divorce papers will be on her desk tomorrow. At HR he demands a resignation form, and in the elevator he corners Miles with a quiet threat about the Star Vista Plaza project, inflated quotes, and a supplier owned by Miles's uncle. The old Cole may have swallowed his anger for years, but this one has no intention of playing the punching bag any longer.
Evelyn's grandfather once said Cole was not to be bullied. Cole wants to know what she has been doing for the past three years instead.
Opening
“I’ll beat the hell out of your precious childhood sweetheart every time I see him.”
The night I asked for a divorce, she got drunk and kissed me.
I was dreaming. A back-alley brawl, a brick raised high in my hand. Suddenly, a searing pain exploded across my face.
My eyes snapped open to a startling scene. I was in a conference room, easily over a thousand square feet, filled with more than a dozen people in sharp business suits.
They were all staring at me with amusement.
Standing before me was a man with slicked-back hair and a smug face, shaking out his hand.
