The story
To pay for her boyfriend's failing heart, a young woman works herself to collapse, juggling jobs and saving every penny for his treatment. When she hears of the Gold Dust Challenge, a publicity stunt where participants scramble for gold flakes, she signs up without hesitation, crawling through dirt for the cash that might save his life.
Backstage, she hears his voice through the wall. Patrick Schwimmer, the poor boy with a congenital heart defect, has spent three million dollars on the event to amuse Isabelle Vance. He and his companions mock the desperate woman on the monitor, unaware it is her. When she confronts him, he denies knowing her, claiming he faked poverty and illness to test whether she was a gold digger.
She asks only for her money back and breaks up with him. He warns she will come crawling back within a week, and soon her part-time jobs begin to vanish one by one.

I juggled multiple jobs, scrimping and saving every penny for his treatment. I was so broke I couldn't even afford medicine when I got sick myself.
So when I heard about the "Gold Dust Challenge"—a publicity stunt where you could literally scramble for gold flakes on the ground—I signed up without a second thought.
I was on my hands and knees, scrambling through dirt and gravel like a feral dog, desperate to find enough "gold dust" to exchange for cash. For his life.
