The story
A holographic image creator who makes likenesses of the dead for grieving strangers takes on a new commission: a man wants a hologram of his late girlfriend in a wedding dress, so she can walk down the aisle with him and say her vows in her own voice. He offers a million dollars and nine days.
Then he sends a photo to use as a reference, and it is the creator herself. The sender is her own fiancé, Holden Sinclair, whose profile picture shows Piper, the little black dog he has had for ten years. He asks her to remove the mole on the woman's nose, thin her figure, and dull the life in her eyes, describing a girl named Summer Kingsmill he grew up with and never stopped mourning.
At home he brings her strawberry cake and tells her not to ruin her eyes staying up late, while behind the study door he keeps sending instructions for a wedding that is not hers.
Opening
Every day, people message me privately, asking me to create holographic images and videos of their deceased loved ones. Occasionally, I pick out a few requests and help them fulfill their wishes.
One day, as I browse through my messages, a profile picture catches my attention.
"Can you create a holographic image of my late girlfriend in a wedding dress? Her dying wish was to marry me, and I promised her I would give her a grand wedding."
I stare at the profile picture, feeling a little light-headed.
